Empathy In Every Session, Strength In Every Step

Sitting With Sam

Welcome! If you have visited this page in search of a psychotherapist, then you have taken the first step on your therapeutic journey.

Embarking on this path could make you feel a variety of emotions, since the need for therapy differs for everyone and nobody understands this better than a psychologist.

Whether you seek to gain deeper insight into yourself, to improve relationships or to manage mental illness, I hope that  you find a suitable psychologist with whom you feel safe, secure and comfortable.

Finding a suitable psychologist, as well as staying committed to the process could foster a positive experience. Therefore, learning more about a psychologist will help you identify the right one for you.

"In the sanctuary of therapy, healing is a dance of courage and vulnerability"

- Maya Angelou

About Me

I previously worked in the field of early childhood development. After that, I worked in maternal healthcare for a non-governmental organisation housed in a Cape Flats primary healthcare institution.

Following the completion of my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of the Western Cape, I completed my internship and community service within the South African National Defence Force, at 2 Military Hospital.

I continued to serve as a clinical psychologist in the SANDF at 2 Military hospital working mostly, but not exclusively, in neurodevelopment and maternal health. I have experience in working with people of all ages from a wide range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.  I currently manage a small private practice and offer sessional psychological services at a state psychiatric hospital.

Therapeutic Approach

My approach to therapy is person centred, which is based on the notion that people are the experts of their own lives.

When provided with a safe, judgement-free therapeutic environment with a therapist who is able to provide empathic listening and facilitation, people may resolve their conflicts or problems on their own. I work collaboratively with clients and use a variety of treatment methods uniquely suited to each individual. I have received training in Psychodynamic Therapy  and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). According to the CBT treatment model, how one interprets a life event is based on the cycle of one’s thoughts, feelings and behaviour, which then results in either a positive or negative outcome. I have done further training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) which falls under the umbrella of CBT.
